Tangerang Regency Boosts Creative Economy with Bamboo Revitalization Program and Global Vision

The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) hosted a Creative Cities Workshop at Joglo Jambe Resto, Tigaraksa, Tangerang Regency, on Saturday, September 14, 2024. Menparekraf Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno attended the event and outlined the steps Tangerang Regency is taking to become a globally recognized creative region. He emphasized the importance of innovation and quality in creative businesses to access international markets.

"Today, we see the enthusiasm of Tangerang Regency's creative economy players, who are now working together to position the region as a World Creative District," said Sandiaga Uno.

Sandiaga underscored the region's creative economic potential, highlighting the newly optimized Bamboo Revitalization Program. This initiative focuses on developing bamboo as a sustainable and versatile material for creative industries, promoting its use in crafts, architecture, and design. The program aims to empower local artisans, encourage eco-friendly production methods, and create high-value bamboo products that can compete on the global stage.

Additionally, Sandiaga noted the Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) 2 National Strategic Project (PSN) as a catalyst for growth in the creative economy. This development is projected to attract 20 million foreign tourists and generate up to 10 million jobs, further enhancing the region's economic prospects.

"Creative economy players must be ready. With bamboo, mangroves, culinary arts, fashion, and footwear, we have the opportunity to create products that not only drive business and job creation but also elevate Tangerang Regency to the global stage," Sandiaga said.

The Head of Bappeda of Tangerang Regency, Ujang Sudiartono, applauded the workshop, describing it as instrumental in preparing the region for its 2025 bid to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN).

"This activity supports our MSME sector, fostering greater creativity, innovation, and collaboration to market their products effectively," Ujang stated.

Ujang further highlighted the Bamboo Revitalization Program as a cornerstone for the region’s development. He noted that the program integrates training for artisans, improved supply chain management, and access to international markets, ensuring that bamboo-based products can meet global standards.

"Through this workshop and the revitalization program, we hope our MSMEs will embrace innovation, enhance product quality, and leverage bamboo's potential to make their products known not only locally but internationally," Ujang added.
